Psychology can be considered a ‘science of mind and behaviour’ in which the goal is to understand behaviour and thought processes. In Paediatrics, Psychology deals with a child’s mental and emotional wellbeing, social development and educational needs.
Developmental Psychology examines the emotional and cognitive growth in the child as they grow and mature. It looks at how the child perceives, understands and acts within the world around them and how these processes change over time, as they are exposed to different situations.
Educational Psychology looks at how students learn in the educational settings. Whether it be child care, kindergarten or school, Psychology examines a child’s intellectual capacity, their preferred learning styles, their ‘fit’ with the educational setting or staff, and strategies to maximize the child’s learning skills.
Kid Sense’s focus is on helping children who are experiencing problems in the educational settings: learning difficulties or giftedness; friendship issues and social difficulties; bullying; difficult behaviour. We also focus on the home setting: stress or trauma, anger, grief, anxiety and worry, depression, family separation and divorce.
