Understand Your Child
Screening Tool
Parents and teachers often “just know” when something ‘isn’t quite right’ for a child. In order to help you ‘put your finger’ on what isn’t quite right, Kid Sense has created the ‘OT Development Detector™’ screening tool.
What is the OT Development Detector™?
The Kid Sense OT Development Detector™screening tool is divided into the 4 main areas of a child’s performance: Table Top Skills, Physical Skills, Sensory Processing and Self-Management. You may find that the child has difficulty limited to just one area, or difficulties may be spread across a wide range of areas.
This screening test can also be a useful structure to discuss a child’s progress in a parent/teacher interview.
Click on the Case Study Example below to see what the outcome looks like.
How do you take the screening test?
1) Click on the button below to chose the OT Development Detector™ most relevant to your child’s age.
2) Print the document.
3) Follow the instructions provided.
Please note that the OT Development Detector™ is designed to detect the need for detailed assessment – it is not an assessment in its own right. As such, some areas of development are not addressed and it is not intended to cover any area of development in great depth.
What if the OT Development Detector™ does not show your concerns?
If you suspect a developmental concern that was not detected by this tool, either use this website to explore more information or call Kid Sense Child Development on 1300 66 00 67 to discuss your results further with one of our Occupational Therapy team.
